Biography

Toi Kai Rākau Iti is of Tūhoe, Waikato and Te Arawa decent. With a broadcast career spanning over a decade Toi hosted Media Take, a bi-cultural show that focused on media and politics. He is also a critically acclaimed satirical documentary maker whose work unpacks complex issues such as bi-cultural identity politics and the relevance of Tikanga in contemporary settings. Toi is currently back home in Tūhoe working with his community, Hāpu and Iwi to leverage social value and impact from post-settlement tribal enterprise. His particular interest and space of work is the development of agroecological regenerative systems which intersect western horticultural science with traditional Tūhoe ecological knowledge and practice.
