Biography
James is a Filipino-Kiwi actor, comedian and writer. He started in comedy in 2009 at just 18 years old and has steadily risen up the ranks of the New Zealand comedy industry.
He has opened for a number of world-class comedians including Nick Kroll, Ron Funches, Demitri Martin, and Ronny Chieng. In 2019, he featured in Melbourne International Comedy Festival’s Comedy Up Late and his latest show Boy Mestizo sold out in Melbourne, Sydney, Wellington and Auckland. Boy Mestizo garnered him a nomination for the 2019 Fred Award for Best Show in the NZ International Comedy Festival and was recently filmed for a television comedy special.
James's training as an actor further adds to his confident demeanour as a public speaker, comedian and MC. His recent TV credits include recurring roles in Good Grief, and Last at Eleven, and he was a regular contributor to sketch shows Jono and Ben, Funny Girls, Only in Aotearoa.
As well as consistently creating his own sell out shows, James is part of long standing hit comedy trio Frickin Dangerous Bro, who in 2021 debuted their tevision show Frickin Dangerous Bro: On The Road.
His mixture of relaxed, conversational energy and charming presence onstage is sure to win any crowd over.
Testimonials
"James MC'd our annual awards night in 2017 and we loved him so much we got him back this year. I loved that he made the effort to find out info about people, remembered most people from the year before and therefore made it a much more personalised experience than a generic stand-up show. The night is always a hit with everyone and a lot of it comes down to James' hosting (and the booze)! Basically, 5 Stars, would trade again." - Leah at Little Giant
